A Toothpaste Allergy and Your Oral Health

Posted .

You probably understand that you should brush and floss your teeth every day if you’re interested in enjoying a healthy smile. However, did you know that choosing the right type of toothpaste can benefit your pearly whites? Other toothpastes can actually damage your teeth. For instance, did you know that some people may actually be allergic to toothpaste?

As you may have guessed, a common symptom of toothpaste allergy is a rash. This rash can itch and can also spread to your cheeks, your nose, and even to your chin. If you have a toothpaste allergy, you could also have to cope with canker sores, hives, respiratory problems, or red and watery eyes.

There are several issues that could lead to your allergy. For instance, some people could be allergic to the spearmint or peppermint oils that can be found in toothpaste. Sadly, there are other ingredients that you could be allergic to, including fluoride. While fluoride can help you prevent cavities, people with an allergy may need to choose another type of toothpaste. Luckily, if you have an allergy, you can try putting less toothpaste on your teeth or rinsing your mouth out with water after you brush.
