Preventing Gum Disease for a Healthy Smile

Posted .

Can gum disease lead to tooth loss? The truth is that gum disease, also called periodontal disease, can result lost teeth, as the disease weakens your gums, allows your teeth to loosen, and eventually fall out.

Preventing gum disease includes routinely checking for its signs and symptoms. If left untreated, gum disease can advance to periodontitis, tooth loss and severe infection. If you notice any changes in your mouth, specifically with your gums, speak with your dentist as soon as possible.

Look for red, swollen, or bleeding gums as they are usually a sign that something is not right. If your gums frequently bleed, or if they have receded from your teeth, gum disease may be the cause. If you have consistent bad breath or have any teeth that are loose, schedule an exam with your dentist to check for gum disease.

Make sure to take good care of your teeth and gums.
